Hard rock group Nazareth hit the nail on the head in 1976: Love Hurts. Throughout the history of music, love and all its ups and downs is a prominent theme. And thus also within the madrigal, a genre that originated in 16th-century Italy and is characterised by tremendous expressiveness. Madrigals can move people to tears or lead them to heavenly happiness. The collaboration between the ensembles Delle Donne Consort and Paradise Repaired sheds new light on this emotional repertoire that has remained relatively unknown in our regions. Romantic madrigals from the Venetian school are the starting point of this concert that will beguile, seduce, and charm you under the title O dolce nocte.
Founded in 2020 by Frederike Van Lindt, Lieve De Sadeleer, Kinga Ludvai and Serena Agosto. Delle Donne Consort (DDC) is an international recorder ensemble that bridges early and con- temporary / experimental music. Rooted in the rich tradition of historical perfor- mance practice, Delle Donne Consort explores the full expressive range of the recorder — from medieval and Renaissance polyphony to newly com- missioned works and interdisciplinary collaborations.
Driven by curiosity, craftsmanship and a forward-looking artistic vision, Delle Donne Consort reimagines what it means to be a recorder ensemble nowadays. The collaboration with Paradise Repaired reflects the group’s ongoing commitment to connecting the past and present in a vivid, creative dialogue.
Paradise Repaired is a young and dynamic vocal ensemble under the artistic direction of Korneel Van Neste. Emerging from the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, the group brings together an international core of singers and instrumentalists devoted to music from the 16th and 17th centuries, particularly that of the Franco-Flemish school and its influence on Italian repertoire.
At the heart of its work lies a clear artistic philosophy: to centre the human and artistic individuality of each performer, allowing interpretation to grow organi- cally through dialogue and trust.
This collaboration with Delle Donne Consort embodies that vision: blending voices, recorders and lute in a shared exploration of the Venetian madrigal and the expressive power of early music.
